What do arsenic, lead, toluene, ammonia, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and butane have in common? These are among the 4,000 chemicals found in secondhand smoke---chemicals that too many Kentuckians are still exposed to daily simply by going to work. As smoke-free laws have spread, the evidence has also grown that these laws protect public health without harming business in bars, restaurants and other hospitality venues. In fact, 24 states (and Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands) have already adopted comprehensive smoke-free laws. Kentuckians deserve no less!
Kentucky's Smoke-Free bill--House Bill 190--has been introduced! Even if you're fortunate enough to live in a smoke-free community, please take a moment now to ask your lawmakers to ensure that ALL Kentuckians are protected from secondhand smoke while earning a living. Let's make Kentucky the next smoke-free state!
