“PE isn’t in our schools already?!” That’s what AHA Government Relations Director, Adrean Cavener, heard at this spring’s Heart Walk when she told participants that not all Idaho schools have adequate physical education (PE) programs. While some do, there is no minimum class time requirement for Idaho elementary, middle or high schools.
Help improve the health of our kids; ask policymakers to establish minimum class time requirements for PE in all Idaho schools.
Today nearly one-third of students are overweight or obese, putting them at risk for developing chronic disease, including heart disease. PE is an essential part of the school curriculum, helping students learn lifelong healthy habits. In fact, research has shown that healthy children learn more effectively and achieve more academically.
Together we can help Idaho students get a healthier start in life.
