Lace-Up Your Sneakers... It's Heart Walk Season!

by Clarissa G. on Friday, September 6, 2013

Fall is just around the corner which means many cities across the country are gearing up for their American Heart Association Heart Walk!  These community events bring together thousands of heart disease and stroke advocates to truly ‘walk the walk’ and ‘talk the talk’ when it comes to the fight against heart disease and stroke.  They lace up their sneakers for some physical activity, while helping to raise crucial funds for life-saving research, education programs, and advocacy efforts.

If you’ve never been to a Heart Walk, it’s a powerful experience and one I’d encourage you to take part in.  I still remember my first walk in the Washington, D.C. walk several years ago.  As we looped around the National Mall, I was in awe of the survivors, caregivers, families, and friends who came out to honor loved ones and shine a light on our nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers.

So don’t miss out on the fun!  Visit www.HeartWalk.org to register for a Heart Walk in your state today.  You can even start a team and invite friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues to join you!  And if you are interested in getting more involved, contact your local state advocacy staff partners to learn about opportunities to help with You’re the Cure activities at the walk.  From collecting petition signatures in support of heart-healthy and stroke-smart public policies to recruiting new advocates to join our community, you can help make a difference.

We want to hear from you: Have you ever participated in a Heart Walk?  What was the highlight for you?  Tell us more in the comments below!
