Rhode Island Receives "F" Grade for Tobacco Prevention Spending

The American Lung Association recently released its annual State of Tobacco Control 2014 Report, evaluating all 50 states on their effectiveness to protect the public from tobacco use, the leading cause of preventable death.

Did Rhode Island make the grade?  In some areas, yes.  In others, NO!

Rhode Island received the following grades for 2013:

Tobacco Prevention Control and Spending   

F

Smokefree Air

A

Cigarette Tax

A

Cessation

D

The American Heart Association, the American Lung Association and the Tobacco Free Rhode Island coalition are calling on lawmakers to increase the state's investment in evidence-based tobacco prevention and cessation programs in the FY 2015 budget.
