As December 6th approached, there was much apprehension in Ohio...again. Every year, the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids issues a report on the 1998 State Tobacco Settlement and the promise of comprehensive tobacco prevention funding. This year marked the 14th year since the settlement.
It also marked the second year of a dubious distrinction for Ohio. Once again, Ohio came in 50th, as in LAST place, for state tobacco prevention funding. Unfortunately, we spend 0 tax revenue on tobacco prevention and cessation. Meanwhile, the state collects $1.1 billion in tobacco revenue, according to the report.
Ohio can do better. Especially on this proven solution!
