Kentuckians Participant in this Year’s You’re the Cure on the Hill Advocacy Day!

by Melissa B. on Friday, April 12, 2013

This week nearly 300 of your fellow You’re The Cure advocates including several from Kentucky gather in Washington, D.C. to advocate on behalf of the American Heart Association. Advocates met with congressional representatives and their staff to urge them to restore the NIH funding cut by the recent sequester and allocate $32 billion for the agency in 2014.  Advocates also were asking their lawmakers to allocate $35 million to the Million Hearts initiative to support a national campaign to reduce high blood pressure. Further, advocates ask members and their aides to know their personal numbers and be screened for high blood pressure.

While in DC, advocates participated in the “Rally for Medical Research,” on April 8 where an estimated 10,000 gathered to urge Congress to restore more than $2 billion in funding for the National Institutes of Health cut by the sequestration.

To see pictures from this year’s event you can visit the Kentucky You’re the Cure facebook page and click here to see a video of the 2013 Advocates of the Year. Even if you weren’t able to attend this event, please take the time to visit our action center and send your legislator an email letting them know that these issues are important to you.
