Advocate Spotlight: Sarah, Josh and Zoey, Kentucky

by Melissa B. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013

Sarah, Josh and Zoey Kentucky

Zoey is an adorable two year old little girl born with half of a heart, a syndrome known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Zoey's condition means that the left ventricle of her heart is too small to function properly.

When she was just seven days old, Zoey had the first of many open heart surgeries to save her life. Now, at just 2 and a half years old, she has already had four major open heart surgeries, the most recent just this past June. These surgeries are part of a series to help manage her defect but they do not fix it. Eventually Zoey's tiny heart will grow weak and she will need a heart transplant.

Zoey is currently thriving at home with her family and will be representing the many children born each day with congenital heart defects as the 2013 Kentuckiana Heart Walk Queen.
