Have you heard about Voices for Healthy Kids?

by Michelle Z. on Tuesday, September 24, 2013

In July, the American Heart Association (AHA) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) announced an advocacy collaboration, Voices for Healthy Kids, focused on reversing the childhood obesity epidemic by 2015. The AHA and the RWJF will focus on policy interventions to advance six priorities that research shows are likely to have the greatest impact on childhood obesity.

· improving the nutritional quality of snack foods and beverages in schools
· reducing consumption of sugary beverages
· protecting children from unhealthy food and beverage marketing
· increasing access to affordable healthy foods
· increasing access to parks, playgrounds, walking paths, bike lanes and other opportunities to be physically active
· helping schools and youth-serving programs increase children’s physical activity levels

Do you know of a nonprofit working towards these same goals? Great News! Voices for Healthy Kids’ Strategic Campaign Fund is awarding grants with a mix of lobbying and non-lobbying resources to support strategic issue advocacy campaigns focused on fighting childhood obesity through state, local, and tribal public policy campaigns.
