While interning on Capitol Hill in 2007, learning more about public health issues and realizing I could lose weight for my own benefit, I set out on a mission that would change my life. Through portion control, giving up unhealthy foods and exercising 3-4 times a week, I lost over 90 pounds.
I got involved with the American Heart Association to help advocate for such important public policy issues that affect each and every one of us at some point in our lives. Advocacy and lobbying have always been a passion of mine as it allows us to speak up for those who either cannot or do not have the opportunity to do so. In addition, public health is an area where advocates must speak up since there are so many other interests always seeking the attention of elected officials in both Harrisburg and Washington D.C.
