As an educator within a hospital system, I have the opportunity to see resuscitation both in and out of hospitals. After 30 years of teaching CPR, it has become apparent to me that we can save more lives by educating the lay public on Hands-Only CPR.

I remember a case where a 12 year old girl, who did not receive bystander CPR, was rolled through the doors of the emergency room while the paramedics were futilely performing CPR, desperate to save her life. Statistically 88% of sudden cardiac arrests occur at home and strike any age. Her passing steeled my resolve to make a difference.

Being a You're the Cure advocate has given me the opportunity to be part of the larger picture, amplifying mine and other voices to the need of increasing bystander CPR.
