The great state of Alabama continues to fight heart disease by passing local comprehensive smokefree ordinances. In 2012, the City of Birmingham, Alabama, the state’s largest city, passed one of the strongest smokefree workplace laws in the state. Fultondale, Saraland, Jasper, Clay, Midfield, Vestavia Hills and Bessemer are among the most recent communities to pass smoking ordinances. To top it off, this year Alabama received the 2011 First Place ANR award for leading the nation in the most strong local smokefree ordinances.
