Adovcate Spotlight: Dr. Rob Rockhold; Mississippi

Dr. Rob Rockhold: Mississippi

My father passed away unexpectedly at home in 1972 from an acute MI caused by childhood rheumatic disease and tobacco smoking.  I received the call from class one week before final exams during my junior year of college in a distant state.  Better awareness/patient education, prevention and/or therapy would have extended his time with my family and me.

This life event influenced me to begin a research career as a graduate student.  The American Heart Association actually funded my research and has done so throughout the years.  In honor of my father, I am an advocate for the American Heart Association.  It is my hope that through advocacy and research we can increase awareness of heart disease and improve outcomes, so families can spend more time together.
