Advocacy Staffing Announcement

by Sarah U. on Friday, September 14, 2012

As of July 1, 2012 Chastity Mitchell has transitioned into a new position as Regional Vice-President of Advocacy for the Greater Southeast Affiliate.  She will manage the American Heart Association’s Government Relations departments in Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.  Please join us in congratulating Chastity in her new role!

Chastity first began her career with the American Heart Association in 2000 as the Government Relations Director in Tennessee.  Her talents were quickly apparent to those around her and she was recruited by some of our partner organizations, where she spent some time managing government relations teams before starting her own consulting business.  In 2009, Chastity re-joined the American Heart Association as a contract lobbyist during the session.  Later that year, she officially became part of the team as a Senior Government Relations Director, managing the Government Relations departments in both Louisiana and Tennessee.  Over the past several years, Chastity helped the team in those states achieve numerous successes and establish strong relationships, which have provided some restricted grants for advocacy activities in those states.

Chastity worked in the legislative process for several years before joining the American Heart Association and received a degree in Political Science from Middle Tennessee State University, as well as a law degree from the Nashville School of Law.

As Chastity transitions into her new role, please contact Rick Casebeer, Government Relations Director, at gsa.advocacy@heart.org for all Tennessee advocacy inquiries.  He now handles all advocacy efforts within the state.
