Today is the 37th annual Great American Smoke Out, when smokers are encouraged to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day.
The Surgeon General’s Report provides undeniable evidence that secondhand smoke is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. That's why the American Heart Association is actively involved in passing smoke-free policies to improve heart health and prevent heart disease in Mississippi.
In fact, communities that adopt comprehensive smoke-free ordinances experience a drop in heart attacks and an added healthcare cost savings to the community. Click here to see the report from Hattiesburg and Starkville.
During the 2013 Legislative Session, we'll work hard to give these benefits to ALL Mississippians that our current smoke-free communities are enjoying. We'll need your help to ask lawmakers to pass a statewide law.
