HHS Launches New Website, BeTobaccoFree.gov

by Krystle R. on Monday, November 26, 2012

The Health and Human Services (HHS) recently announced the launch of BeTobaccoFree.gov, a comprehensive website that provides easy access to the most current and accurate tobacco-related information. This resource includes general information on tobacco, federal and state laws and policies, health statistics, and evidence-based methods on how to quit.

As stated by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, “Tobacco use continues to be the leading cause of premature and preventable death in the United States.”

But there is hope! The CDC, in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, released new information indicating that 30 of America’s 50 largest cities are now protected by comprehensive laws that prohibit smoking in all indoor areas of private workplaces, restaurants and bars.

Let’s do the same in Georgia. Right now, we need your help to get comprehensive smokefree policies passed in Augusta-Richmond County, Fulton County, the City of Atlanta, DeKalb County and Macon-Bibb County.

Visit www.BeTobaccoFree.gov today for information on helping tobacco users quit and providing young people with information on avoiding or ending tobacco use.
