NC AHA Advocacy Coordinating Committee Meets and Honors the 2012 Advocate of the Year!

by Kacie K. on Thursday, December 20, 2012

On Saturday December 15th the NC AHA Advocacy Coordinating Committee met to discuss our 2013 policy priorities, You’re the Cure development, and refresh their own skills in CPR.  The committee is comprised of 22 members from across the state and works closely with Betsy Vetter, NC Government Relations Director to help direct and inform our advocacy program development.  On Saturday the committee reaffirmed their support for our regional advocacy committees and made plans to reenergize this effort in the New Year.

Additionally the committee presented You’re the Cure Advocate and Eastern NC Regional Advocacy Committee Co-Chair Neil Dorsey with the 2012 NC Dr. Robert Blackburn Award for Advocacy Excellence.  Neil joined You’re the Cure in 2008 and since that time has been a driving advocacy force.  He has a passion for tobacco control issues and has been a key advocate in engaging the local media with tobacco control issues and works to build relationships with his lawmakers.  Neil monitors the local media closely and helps keep the AHA and our statewide coalition the NC Alliance for Health informed by providing regular updates.  We congratulate Neil Dorsey on his award!

Growing You’re the Cure and making sure the network is a force for health policy change in our state are high priorities for the advocacy committee.  They welcome your input and ideas.  To learn more about the NC AHA Advocacy Coordinating Committee, Regional Advocacy Committees and how to be more active with You’re the Cure NC please contact Betsy Vetter, betsy.vetter@heart.org or Kacie Kennedy, kacie.kennedy@heart.org.

On behalf of the NC AHA Advocacy Coordinating Committee, Betsy Vetter and Kacie Kennedy we thank all our advocates for your actions on our issues!  Thanks to you we are building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
