Meet Yolanda Dickerson, Survivor Advocate of the Year!

by Kacie K. on Friday, April 19, 2013

Last week at the American Heart Association’s Federal Lobby Day Yolanda Dickerson was honored and named the Survivor Advocate of the Year.  The Survivor Advocate of the Year award is given to one heart disease or stroke survivor who has made an exceptional commitment to the association and its division, the American Stroke Association, in advocating for federal and state policy priorities.  The award recipient has actively participated in association events and been a strong advocate for heart and stroke issues.

Yolanda, who is a congenital heart disease survivor, serves as the chair of the North Carolina AHA Advocacy Coordinating Committee.  Dickerson leads the state advocacy volunteer strategy, created the model for the You’re The Cure network NC State Lobby Day, speaks to youth across the Triangle, and is long-time participant in the Triangle American Heart Walk to raise funds for critical heart disease research and education.  She has also represented the American Heart Association at the Governor’s Summit.

On her return to Wake County Yolanda was interviewed by the Triangle Tribune, where they highlighted her amazing story.  You can read the story here: Raleigh woman honored by American Heart Association.

Please join us in congratulating Yolanda on her great achievement!
