Editorial Highlights the Challenges of EMS Services

A recent editorial in the Bismarck Tribune addresses the challenging environment of our rural EMS services in North Dakota.  The oil boom in western North Dakota has impacted our state in many ways, including a 60 percent increase in ambulance calls.  The increased volume of calls that includes accidents, fires and crime, can take a toll on volunteer EMS providers.  According to the editorial, four volunteer ambulance services — Dickinson, New England, Mott and Regent — have formed a nonprofit partnership to help them deal with supporting their volunteer EMTs. The idea is to create a pool of part-time EMTs to work temporarily in place of regular volunteers in the four services. For more on this story, CLICK HERE
