Con Olson Kansas

I originally became involved with the American Heart Association through my career.  As a paramedic, we recognized the American Heart Association as the gold standard for our CPR and ACLS courses.  Over time, I have had the opportunity to provide training certifications, become a BLS instructor and present at the 2012 STEMI Summit in Wichita. I am currently an ACLS Instructor for our service allowing me to educate paramedics, nurses and physicians.

In addition to education, I serve as an EMS representative on the Northeastern Kansas Mission Lifeline program.  This year I also attended the You're The Cure event in Washington DC on behalf of the American Heart Association.  This allowed me to see a much larger picture of everything that the American Heart Association does. I was fortunate to meet cardiac and stroke survivors and hear their stories.  I was able to learn about advocacy, the importance of research and to meet with my members of Congress to advocate for the American Heart Association and discuss the topics that are important to me as an EMS provider and to our patients.

On a personal note, I have a family member that experienced several TIA's in a short time frame a few years ago.  Since then I've worked to promote stroke awareness.  We have been fortunate enough to develop a comprehensive stroke protocol for EMS and our Critical Access Hospital, which has become an Emergent Stroke Ready facility.
