F.A.S.T. - Know the Signs of Stroke

by Pamela M. on Monday, May 5, 2014

Stroke Month is the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease and to educate Americans that stroke is largely preventable, treatable and beatable.

Stroke is largely preventable.  In fact, it is the No. 1 preventable cause of disability.

Stroke is treatable.  Recognize the warning signs, so you can respond fast in a stroke emergency.  When you recognize a stroke and act fast by calling 9-1-1, you have a greater chance of survival and recovery.  Remember the acronym F.A.S.T. to help you recognize symptoms and what to do:  F - face weakness; A - arm weakness; S - speech difficulties; and T - Time to call 9-1-1.

Stroke is beatable.  Stroke survivors and their families are not alone in the recovery.  The American Stroke Association has resources to help.  Visit www.strokeassociation.org/together for more information.

You can help increase awareness by reaching out to your colleagues, family and friends to spread the word about stroke.  Together, we can end stroke!

Encourage everyone you know to take this downloadable Stroke Risk Quiz.

Share our tools and resources with your networks, family and colleagues.

Help others learn to recognize the most common warning signs by downloading the F.A.S.T. mobile app and sharing it with others.

Go to www.StrokeAssociation.org/strokemonth for these resources and to learn more about how you can help!
