My Story - Mary Kay Miller

by Pamela M. on Thursday, September 13, 2012

Mary Kay Miller Nebraska

I am surrounded by loved ones with heart disease and stroke.  I lost my mom and my husband to heart disease. My son had heart surgery when he was not quite 2 years old.

Then, after being told he could no longer participate in sports, he became an all-class state champion in the 200 meters and went on to college to become an all-American track runner. My grandson was then born 3 years ago and surgery was required.

I can attest that my son and grandson are only here today as a result of the work of the American Heart Association and the advances they have made in heart surgery.  My brothers have had heart surgeries and other aunts and uncles have experienced stroke.  What more can I say other than I hope the work of the American Heart Association continues in the future for me and my loved ones and other Nebraskans at risk for heart disease and stroke.
