UW-Stout officers honored for helping save freshman's life

"When Ryan Child's heart stopped, his legs buckled beneath him and he hit the sidewalk face first."

Check out this great story about police officers who helped save the life of a student who experienced sudden cardiac arrest.  This story has got it all: helpful bystanders, people dialed 911, CPR was administered, a defibrillator was used, and the victim was transported to the hospital.

Remember, the 5 links in the adult Chain of Survival are:

• Immediate recognition of cardiac arrest and activation of the emergency response system

• Early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with an emphasis on chest compressions

• Rapid defibrillation

• Effective advanced life support

• Integrated post-cardiac arrest care
