On Nov. 14th 100 community members gathered for lunch and to learn about the important work happening locally to address obesity, promote active living and healthy eating, and reduce smoking. The forum was kicked off with a presentation from Miss Minnesota, Siri Freeh, who is carrying a message of heart health across the state as a volunteer with American Heart Association. Siri chose to focus on heart health as her platform for her term as Miss Minnesota. Additionally, Commissioner of Health, Dr. Ed Ehlinger provided the keynote trumpeting the success of the Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) in moving the needle on healthy communities. Local success stories were highlighted including a wonderful presentation by Sibley East High School Junior, Mitchell Wentzlaff who helps manage the school’s 2-acre garden. Rep. Glen Gruenhagen and Sen. Scott Newman were also in attendance. Keep up the great work Meeker, Sibley and McLeod Counties!
