As a First Degree Black Belt, Family Nurse Practitioner, and former Emergency Department RN, the need for cardiac arrest prevention and screening is extremely important to saving lives. The best way to survive a Sudden Cardiac Arrest is to not have one, but screening cannot prevent all occurrences. Emergency Preparedness with CPR and AED training is an additional key to the issue. I have screened over 300 adolescents during sports physicals and have identified risk factors in many more than anticipated. I cannot stress how important screening AND preparedness are to saving lives.
