Share Your Story: Lisa M.

by Grace H. on Wednesday, October 3, 2012

Lisa, Montana

It all started when I was 19. I was engaged to be married and in my first year of college when I had an unexpected stroke. In a matter of a week, I had been diagnosed with a restrictive heart condition and had seen a half dozen specialists. In the years since then, I have had several procedures, all minor, yet important in painting the bigger picture for my health future. The most important piece of that puzzle was discovered through a muscle biopsy. I now know that I have a rare muscle disease that is genetic and degenerative. What I don't know is how to treat it. This is why new research has the potential to impact my life in a dramatic way and why funding medical research is necessary for enhancing the quality of my life and the lives of so many others.
