For me heart disease is a family affair. My mother, brother and I are all living with Idiopathic Hypertrophic Subaortic Stenosis. After my diagnosis in 2000, I was given an induced heart-attack via alcohol ablation, followed one year later by an implanted defibrillator/pacemaker. Given our family history we were asked to join a genetic study at the National Institutes of Health and later at John Hopkins. We each continue to struggle with our disease but I have survived 12 years and continue to hold onto life. I hope research and healthcare will continue to heal those with chronic heart disease.
