Michigan repeals Medicaid work requirements
Great news out of Lansing today! The State Senate just voted to permanently repeal Medicaid work requirements! Removing these unnecessary and harmful barriers for people to receive Medicaid benefits is not only going to improve peoples’ health but save the state money. We know from around the country, work requirements create more government red tape, spend more money, and make life harder for people trying to see a doctor.
Now this bill will head to the Governor’s desk for her signature. Individuals with heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other chronic conditions; shouldn’t face burdensome paperwork every month to prove their illness counts as a “disability.” A simple mistake on a complicated form could cost them their health care coverage. We are excited the Legislature took this step and will continue to make sure the Governor signs it!
