Retail Licensing to Protect Kentucky’s Youth
On November 19, youth members of University of Kentucky’s #iCANendthetrend worked alongside AHA, Sen. Higdon and other coalition partners to testify at the interim Licensing & Occupations hearing about the need for retail licensing to protect Kentucky’s youth. Although high school use of these products have dropped in the last year, middle school use has risen…and access to these products remains a challenge that Kentucky needs to address. By requiring retailers to maintain a license with the state, this will allow the state to know where they are, conduct annual compliance checks and issue sanctions for any retailers found breaking the law and selling to youth.
Sen. Higdon and Rep. Nemes are filing bills in the 2025 legislative session to further this effort. You can support this initiative (and others) by texting KY to 46839 and joining our advocacy database.
