Make the Calls – Let your Elected Officials Know the Importance of Medical Research! 📱
Thanks in large part to innovations in treatment and new discoveries, people in the U.S. are living longer, healthier lives. However, recent projections show that 61% of the U.S. population will live with the challenges of cardiovascular disease by 2050. If we want to continue the progress we’ve made in heart and brain health in this country, we need to continue to study new treatments and medications that can improve health outcomes for everyone.
Recently, the federal government has proposed cuts to medical research funding and initiated significant layoffs at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other public health agencies. The NIH awards more than 60,000 research and training grants each year, supporting close to 300,000 researchers from every state in America. The work of these scientists touches millions of patients. In short, NIH funding saves lives and fuels our economy.
