Update from Albany: Senate CPR Bill Sponsor Resigns

by on Thursday, January 2, 2014

Surprising news hit Albany this past week.  Senator Chuck Fuschillo (R-Merrick), the sponsor of the CPR in Schools legislation, announced he is stepping down after 16 years of service to join the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.  For those of you following our efforts to pass the CPR in Schools legislation, you know this is a great loss – and means we will have our work cut out for us this year.  The Senator has been a great advocate and was a powerful voice in Albany.  In addition to his dedication to ensure all students learn CPR, the Senator was the sponsor of the state’s Clean Indoor Air Act.

With Senator Fuschillo’s resignation, we will now be looking for a new sponsor for the CPR in Schools legislation - someone that will be dedicated to passing the bill in the Senate and urging their Assembly colleagues to do the same so that all students can learn CPR before graduation.  We will keep you posted on our progress.  Now more than ever, we need your voice.   Here’s what you can do:  Send a quick note to the Governor and your representatives so that they know how the importance of CPR.  We’ve made it easy for you.  Just go to   and then ask your friends and family to join us to support CPR in Schools by sending a letter too.  Let’s make it happen in 2014!
