Stroke Month: Survivors Among Us

by on Monday, May 27, 2013

Most of us have been touched by stroke. We all have a loved one or a friend who has had a stroke or whose life has been affected by stroke. This includes American Heart Association President Donna Arnett, Ph.D., M.S.P.H., who is a stroke survivor herself. And, she is also the first stroke survivor to lead the organization in its nearly 90-year history.

Dr. Arnett decided that during stroke month, she wanted to share her own stroke story to help raise awareness. Donna is sending an important message to other survivors: that stroke is largely treatable and beatable. To read more about Dr. Arnett’s story of having and surviving a stroke at age 27, please click here.

Stroke is the 4th leading cause of death and the leading cause of long-term disability. It is also largely preventable, treatable and beatable disease. Thank you for another successful stroke month and together, we can end stroke!
