Inner Heroes Count on “Stayin’ Alive”

by Denise C. on Wednesday, June 5, 2013

Have you ever thought about what you would do if a person collapsed in front of you?  Wouldn't we all like to be the hero who jumps into action and saves the day?

By now we all have heard of and know about CPR – and CPR may just be the very tool it takes to mobilize your inner hero.  CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and can more than double a person’s chances of survival.  Although CPR has been around for a while, some exciting new developments have taken place so it can be successfully used to save a life.

This week – National CPR Week – take a moment to learn the two important steps to administer CPR.  First, if you see anyone who has collapsed and stopped breathing, be sure to call 9-1-1!  Second, place your hands in the center of the person’s chest and push hard and fast to the beat of the disco song “Stayin’ Alive.”  Just continue pushing along to the beat until emergency services arrive.  That’s it!

According to the American Heart Association, many people who experience cardiac arrest at home, work, or in a public location die because they do not receive immediate CPR from someone at the scene.  But now you have the tools to mobilize your inner hero and know the steps that can help to save a life!
