First of Its Kind Advocacy Training for Jackson

by Elizabeth W. on Friday, June 7, 2013

The Mississippi Advocacy Department held an advocacy training luncheon on May 17- a first for the Jackson area.  Approximately  20 community leaders, dedicated to various areas of the American Heart Association, gathered at Table 100 Business Conference Center in Flowood and enjoyed listening to Katherine Bryant, Government Relations Director, and Julie M. Howell, Grassroots Director.

Over the course of lunch, participants were able to:

    • Learn about our You're the Cure grassroots network
    • Hear how we’re working to create a generation of lifesavers
    • Learn how we’re fighting for the health of Mississippi’s children
    • See how to take quick and easy actions that make a difference
    • Join a community of advocates working for healthy change in our state

Katherine Bryant said, "Overall, we are pleased with our attendance and participation for the inaugural training and feel like this is only the beginning of advocacy trainings like this for our state.  The volunteers in attendance asked many intriguing questions and were enthusiastic with becoming more involved in the You're the Cure network.  We definitely plan to do more trainings in the future as our volunteer base increases and the state's legislative policies change from year to year."
