Augusta, We Need Your Help!

by Julie H. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013

The American Heart Association proudly serves on the BreathEasy Augusta Coalition with the American Cancer Societ Cancer Action Network, American Lung Association and local partners and volunteers. Together, we're fighting hard for an ordinance that creates smoke free workplaces in Augusta-Richmond County - and we need your help.

The Board of Commissioners is expected to vote soon on the ordinance. Will you please take a moment to contact the members of the board? Tell them you're an Augusta resident and you want their support for a comprehensive smoke-free ordinance for Augusta's workplaces. Be sure to thank Commissioners Corey Johnson and Donnie Smith for their support as well.

Email us at after you place your call(s).

With a few minutes of your time, you can help protect ALL Augusta-Richmond County workers from the hazards of secondhand smoke. We protect workers from other dangerous chemicals in the air at their workplaces, so why aren’t workers, patrons, and visitors safe from secondhand smoke too? After all, there is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Even brief exposure to secondhand smoke can have immediate effects on the cardiovascular system. According to a recent poll, eighty-two percent of Richmond County residents already say that smoking should never be allowed indoors at workplaces.

Please call the Board of Commissioners today. Tell them that everyone has the right to clean, healthy air in the workplace!
