Lincoln Recognized for "Let's Move" Initiative

by Pamela M. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013

The City of Lincoln was recently recognized as a “Spotlight Community” by the National League of Cities (NLC) for its efforts to address childhood obesity by encouraging kids to improve their health by being more active and improving their nutrition.  Lincoln mayor Chris Beutler was invited by First Lady Michelle Obama to attend a celebration in July at the White House, and to participate with other mayors who have initiated similar programs in their cities.

The American Heart Association supports efforts, such as the one in Lincoln, to encourage children to make healthy food choices, and to place an emphasis on regular exercise and weight management.  Diet and exercise can be a powerful weapon in the war against cardiovascular disease and even a pattern of small changes can bring health rewards.

With an increase in childhood obesity rates over the past three decades, which threatens the future of millions of children, the American Heart Association encourages programs such as the “Let’s Move” initiative to bring more attention to the issue of childhood obesity.  Encourage your legislators and other elected leaders to prioritize the health of our citizens by supporting policies that promote good nutrition and exercise. For more on this story, CLICK HERE.
