Community Paramedicine Concept Gains Momentum

by Pamela M. on Friday, August 16, 2013

A recent article published by the Omaha World Herald/LiveWell Nebraska details how community paramedine is gaining momentum across Nebraska, and other states throughout the upper Midwest.  In North Dakota, the legislature appropriated $276,600 just this year to examine how community paramedicine might be deployed in that state. While a community paramedicine program does not currently exist in Omaha, a private company, Medics at Home, is working to start a community paramedicine test with a hospital or health agency.

Nationwide, the trend is growing.  The article states that there were only 15 community paramedicine programs last year, and currently there are over 100.  Experts in the community paramedicine field, such as Gary Wingrove, chairman of the International Roundtable on Community Paramedicine say that programs should be tailored to fit the needs of the community.
