Trenda Alexander Kansas

In 2003 I experienced my first stroke.  As a result, I had both speech and muscle problems. The doctors told me that I was very lucky that my situation did not turn out worse.

Unfortunately, in 2004 I had another stroke.  This time I wasn’t as lucky as it was more serious and debilitating than the first one. The stroke took my ability to eat, speak and walk. I was determined, with God's help, that I would regain all of my basic life functions back.  Through hard work and determination, I was able to reach my goal of walking out of the hospital. I was blessed with the support and prayers from so many people. I continually had to go through speech and physical therapy to build up my strength which would ultimately allow me to recover quickly. I knew it was the grace of God that was healing me.

I remained strong in my faith and was determined to make a full recovery.  Having survived two strokes and seeing the result of other people’s stroke outcomes has made me feel fortunate to be where I am today.

Today, I visit stroke victims in the hospital to provide encouragement and prayer. I am using my experience to help and advocate for others who have had a stroke.
