Opening week of Nevada's 77th Legislative Session

by Grace H. on Friday, February 8, 2013

This week the Nevada Legislature convened for its 77th session. I didn’t check the weather, but I was so optimistic about the session when I headed to Carson City from Las Vegas on the second day of session, that I didn’t even bring a jacket.  I’m excited to be working with advocates from across the state of Nevada to pass several pieces of legislation that will save lives in our state.

We already have a hearing scheduled for Senate Bill 92, which would ensure that every newborn in Nevada is screened for critical congenital heart defects. The hearing will take place on February 19th at 3:30 p.m. in the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.  Our hope is that members of the committee will hear from advocates like you who want to see this bill pass, and that they will vote to send it to the Senate floor!  A vote taking place this early in session may be overly optimistic, but it turns out that the weather in Carson City was so nice this week that I didn’t need that jacket after all.
