The 2025 Nebraska Legislative session
Now that the elections are over, we are turning our attention to the 2025 Nebraska Legislative session. We will be working with lawmakers to build a healthier Nebraska and wanted to highlight the policies where we will need your voice and help to be successful.
- Cardiac Emergency Response Plans in Schools
More than 23,000 people under 18 experience a cardiac arrest a year. This year we are working to make sure schools have plans for when this happens. This includes ensuring AEDs are accessible, staff are taught what to do, and drills are performed just like fire and tornado drills. With over 350,000 students, teachers, staff, and visitors in public schools and their facilities every day, it is important to have a plan in place to address cardiac arrest. - Expand the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
This critical program allows families to purchase healthier food when they can’t otherwise afford it. Many families that need this support are set to be removed from the program. We are working with lawmakers to permanently expand the program. - Medicaid Coverage for Automated Blood Pressure
High blood pressure is called the silent killer because almost 50% of people with high blood pressure don’t even know they have it. We support expanding state Medicaid coverage of self-measured blood pressure (SMBP) monitoring devices and blood pressure measurements to help patients better manage their high blood pressure which helps lead to better health outcomes. - Significantly Increase the Tobacco Tax
Increasing the tax on tobacco tax by a $1.00 will help prevent people from starting use and others to quit. It also provides tax revenue to put towards health programs like the tobacco prevention and cessation program.
