Cardiac Emergency Response Plan/AED Act Signed Into Law

This summer, AHA volunteers and coalition partners stood beside Governor Andy Beshear as he ceremonially signed into law the Cardiac Emergency Response Plan/AED Act. This law requires public schools across the state to implement these plans and maintain AEDs on campus in order to prepare for cardiac events. Heart disease is Kentucky’s #1 killer, so ensuring that more community members are equipped to save lives in times of crisis is key.

Student athlete Matthew Mangine had a sudden cardiac arrest during soccer conditioning. EMTs and hospital staff weren’t able to save him. Now his parents are on a mission to save other young athletes from sudden cardiac arrest, raising awareness about AEDs and what to do in a cardiac emergency.  Please watch the video below to learn more about Matthew’s story.
