Georgia Lobby Day 2025: Advocates uniting to change the future of health

On February 25, 2025, the American Heart Association hosted its annual Georgia Lobby Day 2025 at the Capitol Building in Atlanta, bringing together forty-four passionate advocates and legislators. The primary focus of the event was to advocate for Tobacco Cessation Coverage in Medicaid and funding for the Produce Prescription Program.

Throughout the day, advocates held thirty-seven meetings with legislators and their staff. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many legislators expressing support and committing to further discussions.

The event’s immediate impact was significant. House Bill 506, which focuses on Medicaid Cessation, received a public hearing and was favorably reported out of the Public Health Committee, marking a crucial step forward in the legislative process.

The day was also filled with inspiring stories and meaningful moments. One legislator personally thanked us, sharing that a previous AHA Wear Red Day at the Capitol saved her life. After learning about the signs and symptoms of heart disease during the event, she went to the hospital that same day and was diagnosed with heart disease. Additionally, three legislators shared valuable advice for those who may feel nervous about meeting with policymakers, emphasizing that legislators rely on advocates to provide them with critical information they might not otherwise have.

Overall, Georgia Lobby Day 2025 was a resounding success. It showcased the power of advocacy and the impact of uniting for a common cause. By speaking up and engaging with policymakers, we are advancing policies that improve lives and create healthier communities.
