Looking Back at our Work in 2024
Looking back at our work so far in 2024 it has been another hard-fought year in Utah but there have also been some bright moments.
At the Legislative level, we helped defeat a dangerous anti-Medicaid bill. This bill was an extension of an ongoing sentiment from segments of the Utah State Legislature concerning the viability and function of Medicaid, which is so important to the 350,000 Utahns utilizing the programs. We expect this fight to continue next legislative session. In good news 2024 also saw the CMS approval of the state’s Postpartum Medicaid Extension State Plan Amendment, so thousands of Utah new mothers are now covered through the 12 months following the conclusion of their pregnancy.
This year has also been one of important legwork and ground softening for ongoing campaigns.
Three we are focused on including:
- The effort to expand no cost school meals to thousands of Utah students facing food insecurity.
- Establishing a Heart Attack Facility Designation, which is likely to be approved this year, ensuring most appropriate care for cardiac patients.
- Cardiac Emergency Response Plan efforts have now been raised to priority level.
- Community level work around Complete Streets will also continue, with opportunities to ensure safe streets and sidewalks for all users in multiple municipalities throughout Utah.
It has been a busy 2024 and we anticipate the rest of the year being just as busy. If any of these issues interest you and you’d like to help us please reach out to Grace Henscheid – click here to email her.
