No child in Oregon should go hungry
We believe every child deserves a healthy start in life and that means having enough food to eat. The reality is that too many kids in Oregon aren’t getting enough healthy food and are going hungry. When kids are hungry, it makes it difficult for them to learn and thrive.
One of our top issues for the upcoming legislative session is to ensure all students in Oregon K-12 schools have access to no cost school meals. When we make access to school meals free for all students, we can eliminate cumbersome enrollment procedures or partial payments for some families. This is the one of the best ways to address childhood hunger and help kids be fed for success. It also helps eliminate the stigma associated with free and reduced-price lunches because all students are treated equally and helps ensure no child misses a meal during the school day.
If we are successful Oregon will join 8 other states in adopting a Healthy School Meals for All policy. We know this won’t be easy, but with your help we can make sure Oregon invests in our children and their future. Will you help us?
