Ohio Courts rules for Tobacco Control

May 20, 2024 – An Ohio Judge ruled to uphold home rule and stated that the communities that were a part of the lawsuit can continue to enforce their local tobacco control laws. Despite the state legislature passing a bill to strip away any local tobacco control laws, the judge ruled it was against the Ohio Constitution.

This is great news for public health!

We are grateful to all the communities that are standing up to protect their residents: Columbus, Athens, Barberton, Bexley, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dublin, Gahanna, Grandview Heights, Heath, Hilliard, Kent, North Ridgeville, Oberlin, Oxford, Reynoldsburg, Springfield, Upper Arlington, Toledo, Whitehall, and Worthington.

While we expect the decision to be appealed and this matter to continue its way through the judicial process, we will not be silenced. We’ll continue to advocate for our communities, and we’re encouraged to know you’re with us.
