South Carolina 2025 Lobby Day: Advocates Take Action to Help Schools Save Lives!

On February 13th, 2025, the American Heart Association hosted South Carolina Lobby Day 2025 at the state Capitol in Columbia, bringing together twenty- five passionate advocates, legislators, and representatives from the National Football League. The event focused on advocating for key initiatives, including the recognition of Acute Cardiac Events in Schools and the protection and expansion of Medicaid.

Throughout the day, advocates held twenty-five meetings with legislators and their staff. These discussions were met with positive responses, with many legislators expressing support and committing to further dialogue. The Chair of the Senate Finance Committee voiced his support for our appropriation request. Additionally, a volunteer, sharing a personal story, met with a member of the K-12 Subcommittee and successfully persuaded him to cosponsor the bill.

The immediate outcomes of the event were promising: six new cosponsors, including one from the K-12 Subcommittee, a commitment from the Governor to write a letter of support, and endorsement from the Senate Finance Committee Chair for our appropriation request.

The day was filled with inspiring stories, including one from two parents who tragically lost their children to cardiac arrest, underscoring the importance of the issues at hand and highlighting the importance of the issues at hand.

The impact of this day continues. With momentum on our side, we are one step closer to creating a South Carolina where every school is equipped to respond to cardiac emergencies. Together, we are building a future where every heartbeat counts!
